MUNGER: State health minister Mangal Pandey said here on Saturday that state government will soon construct a new building on the present campus of sadar hospital to accommodate 300 additional beds. At present, the total number of beds in the hospital is 200.
The minister made this announcement after inspecting the sadar hospital at around 8.30 pm on Saturday and holding a review meeting with civil surgeon Dr Shreenath, deputy superintendent Rakesh Sinha, Md Naseem, district programme officer, district health society and other officials of the health department at the collectorate building.
District magistarte Uday Kumar Singh was also present at the meet.
Pandey felt a new building was necessary when he saw the dilapidated condition of the hospital building where indoor patients were admitted. The roofs of the building were damaged and only patch work was done to maintain it.
While reviewing the progress of different health schemes of the government, he expressed displeasure over laxity in regular check-up programme of pregnant women for safe delivery even in far off rural areas. He stressed that pregnant women must be attended by doctors and nurses both in hospitals and primary health centres (PHCs).
After taking feedback from the authorities of the sadar hospital that surgery in cases of complicated delivery cases cannot be done due to shortage of gynaecologist, the minister promised to post a gynaecologist in the hospital by January next.
The minister also took serious note of the fact that the training centre for ANMs was non-functional even after almost two years of its construction. The new building was constructed in 2015 and was handed over to the health department by the construction agency in 2016. Pandey directed the officials on phone to ensure that the ANM training centre becomes functional as soon as possible, according to sources.
When the minister was visiting the sadar hospital, some persons raised slogans against the mismanagement of the hospital complaining about lack of punctuality of the doctors.
